In a significant move aimed at strengthening its electoral footing, the Indian National Congress has unveiled its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The announcement, made by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal during a press conference on Friday, includes a roster of high-profile leaders poised to contest from key constituencies across the country.

One of the notable inclusions in the list is former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who is set to contest from the Rajnandgaon constituency. Baghel, a stalwart within the Congress ranks, brings a wealth of experience and political acumen to the electoral arena. His strong presence in the Patan constituency, coupled with his track record of multiple victories in assembly elections, underscores his formidable stature within the party.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, a towering figure in Indian politics, has been fielded from the picturesque Wayanad constituency in Kerala. This strategic move reflects the party's resolve to consolidate its electoral base in South India while leveraging Gandhi's pan-Indian appeal.

Similarly, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, a seasoned parliamentarian and intellectual powerhouse, is set to contest from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency in Kerala. Tharoor's articulate advocacy and progressive vision have earned him widespread acclaim, making him a formidable contender in the electoral landscape.

The list also features other prominent leaders such as former minister Tamardwaj Sahu from Mahasamund and Jyotsna Mahant from Korba seats in Chhattisgarh, DK Suresh from Bangalore Rural in Karnataka, and K Sudhakaran from Kannur in Kerala. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal will be contesting from Alapuzza, further bolstering the party's electoral lineup.

The names of the Congress candidates have been meticulously scrutinized and approved by the party's Central Election Committee (CEC), underscoring a rigorous selection process aimed at fielding candidates with proven track records and strong grassroots connect.

The announcement of the Congress candidate list comes on the heels of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) releasing its first list of candidates for the upcoming general elections. With the electoral battle intensifying, both parties have embarked on an aggressive campaign trail, vying for the mandate of the people and outlining their vision for governance.

As the countdown to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 commences, the stage is set for a riveting electoral contest characterized by spirited debates, grassroots mobilization, and dynamic leadership. With a formidable lineup of candidates, the Congress party is poised to stake its claim in shaping the political landscape of India's democratic journey.
